The wonder and stupidity of humanity...
The following is reprinted from Nerdle.
“I finished reading Tony Vigorito's Just a Couple of Days. I wanted to write up a little review but I'm not sure how I'll manage to do it... I've dog-eared dozens of pages and stuffed the file-drawers of my mind to overflowing with thoughts about the book.
I'm glad that I found this book. Thanks for buying it for me, Jess.
First off, I think that the reviews (on the back cover and elsewhere) misrepresent the book. I'm not sure if I would call it “a Dr. Strangelove for the biotech century.” Yes - the story is similar to Strangelove in some ways, but the story isn't the focus of the book. The other reviews gave me the wrong idea as well. Perhaps the book is what you make of it. The following is what I made of it.
This book is about language and how it shapes our society and our reality. It is about the ridiculousness of language and the ridiculousness of people. It is about the wonder and stupidity of humanity. It is about living life completely and careening out of control. It is a Zen lesson. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has an interest in Zen Buddhism. In fact, I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in any religion and anyone who has an interest in any no-religion. If you don't fit in any of these categories because you can't be labeled that easily, then I recommend the book to you as well.
I should warn you again that the book may not be about any of the above things when you read it. Caveat lector. Also, if you decide to read Just a Couple of Days, you may be put off at first. Is it something about the writing? Or the characters? You'll laugh later when you realize your mistake. It wasn't the book, it was you…
Blip and Sophia - you had it all along.
PS. Don't look up the definition of “Billets-doux.” You won't need it.”
